How do the structures that we observe in white light and describe as coronal mass ejection (CMEs) evolve to produce the signatures that we identify in interplanetary space as ICMEs? What do the associated signatures of CMEs seen in EUV and X-rays tell us about the structure of CMEs as they leave the Sun? Many aspects of these basic questions remain unanswered. In this talk I will describe how more realistic simulations of CMEs, coupled with new observations from STEREO, may help to answer these questions.
